I came to Crit Fails and Fairy Tales looking for a game to fill my Tuesdays, and while yes I found that — I also found an incredible group of new friends and the DM, Charlie, truly does prioritize everyone’s player experience above any rules or the like. His stories are rich, multi layered, and so incredibly intriguing. He integrates player backstory with a lot of care and plenty of clarifying questions to deliver a game that everyone enjoys, as well as plenty of his own twists. All of which I have loved. He will always accommodate within reason any wild player idea, and I always look forward to my Monday and Tuesday nights at his table.

The days between sessions feel like torture. I’ve become so invested in the campaigns that Charlie runs and the world he is building that it might become unhealthy.

Charlie is a phenomenal DM who takes deep consideration of both the players at his table as well as the worlds and stories that he crafts. I have played two characters across two campaigns with him and have enjoyed every moment.

Four years at the same table
This one is longer, and worth reading in full if you are trying to work out what a paid campaign actually feels like after the novelty wears off.
I’ve been playing D&D with Crit Fails and Fairy Tales for 4 years now. It’s crazy to be able to say that. We’ve been doing this campaign so consistently for so long. It’s become part of my weekly routine and I look forward to it every time. I think I’ve only met about half of the party in person, but I definitely consider each and every one of them to be good friends of mine.
Charlie is a spectacular DM. He definitely understands pace and tension when setting scenes, and this leads to some really amazing story and roleplay opportunities. I feel like he is really mindful about listening to his players, and helping everyone achieve what they’re trying to get out of the gameplay. Each character has their chance to shine, and have their backstory and interests explored. It’s a lot to juggle to make sure everyone has their moments, but Charlie manages this with ease.
The environment of the table is always golden, as far as vibes are concerned. He harbors a space where everyone can play and have fun. He lets the goofs ride, but he is also great about making sure we stay on track, so that we aren’t just wasting time.
Story wise, he’s crafted a beautifully well rounded world filled with diverse cultures and intricate political structures. As we have progressed through our story, we’ve been able to travel to several of the different regions, all of them have their own unique flavors about them. No two places have felt the same, and as a player, I find that to be incredibly engaging.
From world building, to creative, well rounded NPCs, the environment feels real and full of life. But also, Charlie puts so much thought and effort into things like custom world maps, custom 3D battle maps, and ambient music to fit any scene. Every single piece shows how much time he’s devoted to making a world that’s fun to play in and an experience that you will look forward to each week.— A player, four years into the same campaign
What we do not do
We do not solicit reviews, we do not offer anything in exchange for one, and we have not marked this page up for star ratings in search results — Google does not allow a business to publish its own review snippets about itself, and we would rather have the page than the stars. If you have played with us and want to say something, say it in the server.
