Crit Fails and Fairy Tales runs paid Dungeons & Dragons campaigns online. You join a table of four to six players, meet at the same time every week, and play a full level 1 to 20 story with a Dungeon Master whose actual job this is. Games run on Foundry VTT and Discord, with 2D and 3D battlemaps, ambient music and custom content. Seats cost $20 to $30 a session depending on the DM.
The difference between us and a marketplace is that we are one company rather than a directory of strangers. Every Dungeon Master here was interviewed, trained and held to the same standard: player-focused games, a real session zero before anything starts, backstories woven into the plot rather than parked, and a campaign that changes because of what your characters did. If a table is not working for you, you talk to us, not to a support form.
We also teach this. Crit Fails Academy is a video library and DM community for people who want to run games at that standard themselves, whether that means a better home game or a paid table of their own. It is $25 a month, and it is free for anyone running an active table through our Discord.

What every Crit Fails table gives you
- A session zero before session one, so you know the DM, the setting and the table are right for you before you commit.
- Four hours a week at the same time, every week, with the same group. Campaigns here run for years, not three sessions.
- Your backstory in the plot. Not a paragraph the DM read once — an actual thread the campaign pulls on.
- Foundry VTT with 2D and 3D battlemaps, custom tokens, ambient music and homebrew content built for the table.
- A full level 1 to 20 arc, with roleplay, combat, dungeon crawls and puzzles rather than only one of those.
- Dungeon Masters who were interviewed and trained by us, and who we keep training. Nobody here is a stranger with a listing.
- Beginners welcome at every table. Several of our DMs prefer teaching new players.
The Dungeon Masters
Every DM here runs their own world, their own systems and their own style. Read them before you pick a table — the point is to find the one that fits you.
Charlie Suits
Founder. Runs Londorwin, a homebrew world where every campaign shares one timeline.

Punctual, prepared, and happy to run anything from homebrew to any module you name.
Read Dragon’s profile →Ninjaxus
High fantasy to grimdark post-apocalypse, with plenty of homebrew and a hero's journey underneath.

Collaboration, trust and consequence. Currently running a Greek and Roman myth homebrew.
Read Orpheus’s profile →Narrator of the Gods
“Guillermo del Toro directing a game written by a drunk Neil Gaiman.” Sinister whimsy.

Luxien, the Fated Table. Ten years in, and the rule is “if you can dream it, let's make it happen.”
Read LuckReaper’s profile →Ipsi
Back-to-front campaign design, a 100+ page subclass compendium, and almost no idea gets a no.
Read Ipsi’s profile →Beriweyr
Heists in Waterdeep, horror in Barovia, spelljamming, and Star Trek if fantasy is not the mood.

Two decades of DMing across a lot of rulebooks, starting with D&D 3e at ten years old.

Dark, gritty, cinematic. Shadowdark and Mothership, with the silliness left in.

About 70/30 roleplay to combat, reverse-engineered from the campaigns that actually worked.

Common questions
What is a professional Dungeon Master?
Someone who runs tabletop roleplaying games as a job rather than a hobby, and is paid for it. In practice you are paying for the preparation — the world, the encounters, the maps, the rules knowledge, the scheduling and the reliability — rather than for the four hours you are at the table.
How much does it cost to play with Crit Fails?
Seats are $20 to $30 per player per session, set by the individual Dungeon Master. You are told the exact figure before you sit a session zero, and session zero itself is free.
How is this different from StartPlaying or another marketplace?
A marketplace lists anyone who signs up and takes a cut. We are one company with a team of Dungeon Masters we interviewed, trained and hold to a single standard, and if a table is not working there is somebody to tell.
Do I need to buy anything to play?
No. Your Dungeon Master owns the Foundry VTT licence, the rulebooks, the maps and the music. You need Discord, a browser and a microphone.
I have never played D&D before. Can I still join?
Yes. Several of our Dungeon Masters particularly enjoy running for new players. Say so when you ask about a seat and we will match you with one of them.
What is a session zero?
The meeting before the campaign starts, where you build characters, agree what the game is about, and set the table's boundaries and expectations. Every Crit Fails campaign has one, and it is also how you find out whether the DM and the table suit you.
How long do your campaigns run?
Most run one to five years of weekly sessions, because they are built to reach level 20. A few Dungeon Masters run shorter arcs of four to six months. Each profile says which.
What systems do you run?
Mostly Dungeons & Dragons 5e, mixing the 2014 and 2024 rules. Individual DMs also run Pathfinder 2e, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowdark, Mothership, Blades in the Dark, Star Trek Adventures, LANCER, Savage Worlds, Daggerheart and Pokemon Tabletop United.
